The first dog turns 4 today! Here, he trots across the South Lawn in Washington, D.C. in August, 2010.
Happy 4th Birthday, Bo! It's been a busy year for the precocious Portuguese water dog, what with trying to eat more healthfully on his new diet and traipsing through the White House gardens as the unofficial gardening supervisor. He's even been doing his fair share of charity work by visiting military families (and donning bunny ears). All in all, the first dog has come a long way since he settled in at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The first lady has been busy fighting childhood obesity, but she's also concerned about Bo's eating habits. At a Kids State Dinner hosted by Michelle, the president warned children not to drop any scraps on the floor, as "Bo is on a diet right now."
