Eight unfamiliar paws will strut the red carpet next month as the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show welcomes two new breeds.
The Treeing Walker Coonhound and the Russell Terrier will appear in the show for the first time when the 137th competition takes place Feb. 11-12 in New York City.
The American Kennel Club determines the eligibility of breeds that compete at the show. According to the Westminster Kennel Club website, the AKC takes a multitude of factors into consideration, from the total numbers of the breed to its geographic distribution.
The Treeing Walker Coonhound and the Russell Terrier will be two of 187 breeds and varieties represented in the 2013 show, which will be held in Madison Square Garden.
